Marinwood Park
FORM AND FUNCTION, FACILITATED.
A stylish yet subtle utilitarian structure located at a popular trailhead alongside a creek, the challenge of its highly visible location was solved by emulating the mid-century architectural aesthetic for which the surrounding neighborhood is known. Featuring diagonal structural braces inspired by the indigenous Miwok “kotchas” that dotted the landscape for thousands of years, this garden shed proudly sits in the landscape. Through perceptive planning and thoughtful geometry, the building redirects passers-by onto a new creek path so the caretaking park employees can do their work in a dignified, long-span workshop graced by profuse natural light.
